Our Experience

Eva M. Schmitt, PhD, is Manager of the Institute on Aging Research Center, and a program evaluator at the University of California, San Francisco, Department of Medicine-Geriatrics. She has a social work degree and graduated from the University Kassel, Germany, where she received a Masters in Social Gerontology and Doctor of Philosophy. Dr. Schmitt has managed several research and evaluation grants as a co-principal investigator and developed conceptual evaluation models for health services and educational programs on the academic and community level.

Erin Hubbard, M.A., is a Research Coordinator with the IOA Research Center and a Research Associate in the Department of Physiological Nursing at UCSF. Ms. Hubbard coordinates the study on the Management of Sleep Activity Disruption in Alzheimer's Disease. She has conducted activity sessions for participants in this study and assists with data collection and analysis. Ms. Hubbard has a MA degree in Arts and Consciousness from John F. Kennedy University and a BA in psychobiology from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She has prior experience as an instructor for developmentally disabled seniors, a visual artist, and as a research assistant.

Judy Mastick, R.N., M.N., F.N.P., is the Research Nurse Coordinator for the Parkinson's disease and sleep disorders research at Research Center. She received her Masters in Nursing Degree from UCLA and is a Family Nurse Practitioner. Judy has been involved in many aspects of nursing including hospital, rehabilitation, family practice, occupational health, and health education. She has worked in research at UCSF and at IOA since 1996.

Hazel Outlaw is the Manager of Clinical Research and has worked in the IOA Research Center Research for over 12 years. Ms. Outlaw is primarily responsible for the operation of clinical trials in both community-based and institutional settings. She also acts as the liaison between the IOA Research Center and the pharmaceutical industry. Her many years of clinical trials expertise and experience have built a strong rapport with many pharmaceutical companies.
